Our Little Boys

My kid pacifying my crying nephew

We have three kids at home, ZG is the youngest and my kid is the eldest but, strange that my kid loves to take care of this little baby whenever he is crying or just having fun.

We hope that they remain closer when they age. Of course, childhood conflicts will always be there, but they quite know that they are family and must stand for one another.

My Friends - My Family

dinner with childhood best buddies

friends for 22 years and counting

Do you have friends who have been with you since grader's days? I do! In fact, they have been my friends since grade 3.

When we moved to General Santos City, I would only communicate to them through letters. But, when I got married, I happened to be back in Zamboanga City and normally hang with them whenever we like it.

But, since we have relocated again, I could only visit them for few days and bond with theme just a little more. Now, we have our individual families and kids but that don't stop as from being closer. We have individually witnessed heart aches, family ordeals, births, weddings, birthdays and more and we shall still be counting to more landmarks of our friendship. We are extension of each other's families. Truly, friends are in number but only the real ones stick around for good in spite of your ups and downs.

Vacation with the Family

We decided to visit our old home in Zamboanga City. We traveled by boat and originally decided to bring our family van by a road trip to Pagadian, Iligan, Cagayan, Bukidnon and Davao. It would have been fun to visit these places but we wont compromise our safety by the condition of our car. So, we decided to return to Gensan by boat again while our dad and another family member would travel the road.

We simply visited our other relatives and friends here in Zamboanga City and just did window shopping.

What Family Role Do You Family?

You Are the Mother

You have an abundance of love for humanity. You care about all the people of the world.

You love helping others more than anything else. You love to be needed.

At your best, you unconditionally love people. You are very nurturing.

You are a wise and gentle teacher. You are happy to guide anyone who needs your advice or explanations.

At your worst, you are controlling and overbearing.

You smother people with affection and gifts. And with this attention you give, you are expecting something in return.

Blogging My Family

I love my family. They are simply a source of joy and sometimes, wrath. hahhahahah! But, we cant deny nor disown family. So, this blog portrays how (in)sane we are and how we simply care for one another in spite of our individual lapses.

I wish to post helpful practical tips from us and from the experts and family traditions of other nations and tribes. We can always learn from one another.

The Holy Family

I got this painting of the Holy Family from Wikipedia . Simply amazing.

Family Bonding

with parents, nephews and siblings, dining at a mall fastfood

My sister and I went back home with our individual family. The house is indeed packed but we are quite happy with it.

But, it has been awhile when we were all together and bond as a family. So, whenever it is possible we do the following:

1. movie watching
2. dining
3. swimming
4. church-going
5. shopping
6. and simply any fun activity for everyone

Dealing with Child's Tantrums

When my kid, years ago when he was around 3 years, had burst for something he needed, it would usually be for sleep, food, toys, games, or simply attention from us. But, I remember only rare occasion when my kid had thrown this unwanted behavior especially, in public.

I was quite conscious with my kid's need that I did anticipate what he would want. But, rule of the thumb for us, " We will give it to you the next time possible." We kept and have been keeping promises we give to our kid. That way, he can look forward to the time he can get what he wants. But, if he would not compromise, we simply shut him off by bringing him home or by ignoring his wails. These had worked for us, so, my kid would remember that tantrums would not bring him anywhere.

Experts say that tantrums can be caused by several reasons and there can be different ways how to deal with them.

Mother's Love

Madonna and Child by Sassoferrato (Giovanni Battista Salvi) Paintings

There is no greatest love exists on earth than the love the mother has for her child. As a mother, I truly believe this. I simply want the best for my kid. Now, regardless if circumstances force some mothers to do the unthinkable for their kids, still, it is by this love that brings out care, warmth, humility and generosity among other things.

When I saw the movie, "Passion of Christ," I could not help but weep a lot. There is no better model of this mother's love than Mama Mary herself. There are Mama Mary's among us. We don't have to be Catholics to be one. It is by our actions as a mother that distinguish us from the rest of the society.

I simply salute all the moms out there.

Movie Viewing with Kids

Yesterday, my sister Tammy , little boys and I went to view Night at the Museum 2. We simply want to bring the kids to a movie theater, so, they can enjoy the movie better with all its sound and graphic effects.

I get to explain the story too. This can be another venue for family bonding. You can have something common to talk about after the movie.

Find Common Activities for Sibling Bonding

As written in my other article, my siblings and I were really not that close when we were younger. But, we make up for the lost time by doing things we both love.

We are all simply passionate on these:

1. pedicure and manicure- we go to the same parlor every two weeks and have our pedicure and manicure done. We just don't share the same liking for nail colors. hahahhaha

2. Havaianas Flip flops - we drool for these slippers.hahahhaha!

3. Chinese food - I like siomai while they like hakaw but we all love pancit canton

4. dresses - oh, we are just confident women. hahahaha

5. body massage and spa - what can I tell, we are simply vain!

6. movie - while I go for romantic and action-packed stuffs, they prefer horror films.

7. parties - talks, disco, drinks, well, these are us!

8. boys - we have the same liking for choosing men whom we can appreciate

Remembering Sibling Rivalry

I was never that intimate with my younger sibling but I could pretty remember that we were always quarreling. I could not, however, remember all the reasons for the quarrels but mostly, they were of petty reasons.

We were reprimanded all right by our parents but we simply grew older but not at all sweet or nice to one another.

Now, that we have our own individual families, we asked of our rivalry before. I was told I was always the favorite since I was an honor student. I felt sorry that I missed having a good time with her and my other siblings. But, it is never too late to catch up though.

So, to all parents and siblings who face similar sibling rivalry, let me share these tips we personally acquire:

1. never compare siblings
2. never take sides
3. punish and/or reprimand equally
4. focus on and praise the good points not just on the weaknesses
5. handle the issue but not the person
6. fight fairly
7. assure the equal love for all the siblings regardless of accomplishments

Friends as Family

My former co-workers/mentors, my friends

In my former work for seven years, I have worked with fellow administrators. They were elders that I looked up to them as elder siblings.

We remember each other's birthdays and give gifts for special occasions. I quite miss them since they were always a source of wisdom, strength and fun.

Raise the Roof for the Ladies of the House

With siblings and my mom

One of the things we love as a family is to go out for a family swim. This picture was taken when one of my siblings came home for my mother's birthday. My siblings are all women, so, my father was stricter when we were younger.

My parents were just happy that all their grandchildren are boys. Hahhahaha!

Story Telling: My Mom-Kid Time

Working as a teacher, student and an entrepreneur consumes my entire time. I wish to spend more time with my kid, but that is pretty impossible in my case. So, the only time we bond is when I teach him to read and write and give him stories before his bedtime.

I run out of stories from the books that I normally just make up my own version of Sinbad, Alladin among other favorites of his. Even if I am all beaten from my day's toil, this is however my sacred time with him.

Regardless of the recreation or bonding period of parents and kids, I still believe that being together counts more.

Obama: Just Like Any Ordinary Family

The Obama Family on their typical days
source: email from Funzug yahoo group

I received one of these pictures of Obama from my email and I just couldn't help but share this to you. This only shows that leaders are just ordinary people, only with a special tag on their head.

We Miss Our Family

Happy smiles for us

I miss my siblings since they were away for awhile now, my other sister Tammy and her kid will leave this June to join my other sibling in Manila to help her with her new laundry business.

One thing we usually do as a family is to dine together. We sure have one big appetite for sumptuous meals whenever we can even without special occasions.

How Manny Pacquiao Unites Us Filipinos

The General Santos folks packed the City's Biggest Gym

It is only during the fights of Manny Pacquaio that the entire Filipinos unite. You could actually see streets lack of people and every one else was behind their TV tube. Pacman is Filipinos' pride and unity. He is the only person whom every Filipino will agree on. Sad but true.

Centuries Old Stilt Fishing

I found this amazing picture of Sri Lanka's centuries old of stilt fishing. This way of fishing is quite different from the regular fishing. Quite dangerous and tiring I must say but the Sri Lanka folks simply keep this tradition over the years.

Mother's Day for Us

My other sibling and with my parents

May 16 was Mother's Day all over the world. In the Philippines, it was quietly celebrated by families and loved ones.

Since my other siblings were away, I just brought my parents and the kids to a resto and dine to our heart's delight.

We enjoyed the new place but not the pricey menu. hahahhah!

The celebration was fun and the kids were just happy with the cake and ice cream that followed.
