When Working Parents Are Too Busy

Experts say that working parents who take two jobs or more are most likely to leave their kids with obesity, school and social skills problems.   This is noted in the article of psychologist Jean Gross in her booklet, Little Less Conversation: The Effect of Busy Parents on a Child’s Ability to Talk.
I have been working for days and nights since June on my graduate school projects amidst school and store work loads. And, there are indeed days that I can still feel quite guilty  about the limited time I have for my kid.

So, whenever I have a small window of time, I use it to spend this with my kid and partner.  Normally, the morning time right after a sleep is the best time that I have with my little boy as I attend to his school needs.

Further, if I am  indeed too busy, at least, his father compensates for the time. I use as well the afternoon as I come from work to ask about his school day and if he has assignments to do. This along with his exams are for me to prepare his reviewers.

Good thing that I have my PC to research on stuffs that I simply have forgotten. I only wish that I can have and use the  all in one pc  for my PC's optimum use.

Busy parents can still have creative ways to have quality time with their kids and these ways may include spending the free time even how small it is with kids and to help them communicate and work at school.

The complete list of these creative ways is on this article.

Electricity From Waste

In a recent national news, I saw a feature of an urban barangay in Luzon where they create electricity out of urban waste and what can be more amazing is the fact that the local government has held this initiative and let its constituents use the electricity for residential use like ironing.

So, this left me to question that indeed pollution can be addressed and that natural energy can be used from the waste, thereby, limiting the presence of waste on earth and addressing the limited supply of oil.

Apart from this, the collection and recycle of use oil is also put to reality and is used for electricity source.

We wish then that all sorts of waste including the  harmful  waste from industrial plants and alike that contribute to global warming.

Kudos then to all enviromentalists and eco - techie supporters.

Beauty Regimen At Home

Spa Sea Salt Skin Smoother
To save on commercial salon services, I would normally buy at - home beauty produces, so, I can do use and apply them personally. These would include some salt - bleaching treatment, hair products and pain salves after a regular run.

With the right information and guide, these home - use beauty products can be equally effective at cheaper rates.

Good thing though that there are now beauty shops locally or online for beauty and body treatment like sea salt   for some healthy, younger and glowing us.

We have to however be more vigilant with illegitimate distributors or sellers since most of their beauty supplies are not health safe.

So,  shop now for a beautiful you!

Mountain Off - Road Biking for the Family

crossing a suspension bridge through the trail

with fellow bikers
Last Sunday was a good one as I chose to de - stress from my work, graduate school and store through an off - road trail biking with other biking enthusiasts. And just like my trail running, off - road biking requires different kind of courage and stamina.

Good thing though that the group, composed of family bikers and other professional biking - fanatics, was newbie friendly that they waited for us and assisted me in my biking. I just had to walk though through a suspension bridge and on imbalanced trail but had to grip strongly on the brake as I went downhill.

So, I hope next weekend, my family and I can join the group again.

Making Your Office Homey

Home would always be comfortable for us but to have it extended to your very own office or store may attract positive or negative impression.

For some, offices should mean formality and impartiality while others would try to complement that formality with personal touch.

For one, I want to be comfortable in my workplace while upholding office policies. This would include a comfy office table with a comfy chair with  cushion for chair   to support me.

This question for a formal or personalized homey office is on the culture promoted inside the company. So, it is important to know the culture and policies before you get yourself embarrassed.

Tutoring Kids

Helping my kid during his homework  is my way of bonding with him and making sure that he understands well his academic lessons.

But, having a work among other roles as an individual and wife, tutoring can sometimes be a burden too. So, it shall help if we hire a personal tutor or better yet if your partner can share the tutoring works with you.

All these may boost your kid's academic performance and more importantly, your kid would feel the love and concern for his academic performance and well - being.

Effects of Social Media to Kids

My kid was 9 years old then, when he asked me to create a Facebook account for him since most of his classmates do have the account. But, with my protective instinct against exploitation and exposure to the unwanted news, images and alike, I strongly discouraged him against  Facebook.

But, my justification was compromised when his very own teacher asked them to create the account for learning.

Now, he has to ask to open his Facebook account for some updates.

So, is social network really good for our kids? In a plenary talk entitled "Poke Me: How Social Networks Can Both Help and Harm Our Kids", Larry D. Rosen, PhD, professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, cited that the kids may have positive and negative benefits from social networks. These negative effects include psychological disorder, depression, harassment, exposure to sexting (texts of sexual content), and low grades for chronic users.  However, social networks may as well foster social skills, empathy for online friends and an effective tool for learning.

Technology is inevitable but as parent, we can only guide our kids and make sure that they don't allow social networks to interfere with school performance, to cause any psychological problems or to allow themselves for exploitation.
